I've got a 2010 Prius I bought at the end of March 2010, putting me at the 2-year maintenance cycle. The car only has about 9,200 miles though, so I can probably skip some of the recommended mileage-based maintenance tasks in the warranty booklet. What I'm trying to figure out is what I do need to do. I don't have my records handy, but I'm pretty sure I rotated the tires and changed the oil/filter right around 5k miles, which was probably last May or so. I also took the car in at around 18 months for a free overall inspection from the dealer, I think they topped off all fluids etc. but it might have been more of just a check. Otherwise it looks like cleaning or changing the cabin filter might be in order. And I'll be sure to rotate tires again @ 10k miles. Should I change the oil every year, even if I don't drive 10k miles between oil changes? Anything else I should do? Thanks.
I'm in the same boat. Bought in summer of 09 and only have 13000 miles. Filters and such I would go by miles instead of time because they aren't working when the car isn't moving. I emailed Toyota about low mile oil changes and they recommended once a year regardless. IIRC, I've had one oil change and tire rotation. Just took it to the dealer and they have my next oil change due in August.
The warranty/maintenance booklet details all the items recommended at various mileage/time intervals (and it says to use mileage or time, whichever comes first).
I'm aware of this, thanks; my OP mentions the maintenance booklet. But obviously some things don't need to be done "whichever comes first," for example tire rotation. I'm trying to figure out which other things might need to be done on a time vs. mileage basis. I don't have the service plan, so whatever I do I'll be doing myself.
