I bought a set of Continental EcoPlug in April as the Michelin were on backorder. I ended up putting 2000 miles on the tire before I exchanged it for a set of Michelin Energy Saver. After 1.5 months of usage, I am finally at the 2000 miles mark on the Michelin. I figure to give you guys some of my findings (Costed me $100 for the swap!) Dry handling - I think this is very close, but I give the Conti a slight edge. Still the Prius is a pig, neither tires do anything well enough in the handling department to change that. Wet handling - Conti wins, I got a lot less wheelspin with them. Ride - Michelin by a LOT. Noise - None of these tires are quiet, but the Michelin is a LOT quieter than the Conti Fuel mileage - I drive a normal human being. I honestly don't see a difference either way, maybe a slight advantage to the Michelin
Interesting findings. The mpg part is where I am confused. Most people report a 1-2mpg loss with the ProContact compared to OE tires. Most people report a 2-3mpg gain with the EnergySaver A/S compared to OE tires. There should in theory be a larger discrepancy between these two tires. Regardless, thank you for your thoughts. It's always great to hear feedback.
The difference isn't great enough to be concerned about. I didn't get a 5mpg drop or gain either way. The difference is too small for me to pick one over the other based on the fuel mileage alone. Still, the ride on the Michelin is the reason why I will never buy the EcoPlus again.
Did you get Energy Saver or Energy Saver A/S? I assume you meant not A/S which would explain why mileage didn't improve.
