2001 - i did not see gen1 area...moderators, please put this in the right place. I am having the red triangle of death come on. The only thing that has happened is I replaced the radio. I removed the CD player and put in an aftermarket head unit. The radio power plug, speaker plug, and antena plug was plugged into the new head unit. There was one more plug on the stock radio back that I may have left unplugged. Would this have anything to do with the operation of the hybrid system. I just replaced the 12v aux battery since the old one was bad. OEM battery from the dealership. I can get rid of the RTOD by cycling 12v power, but it comes back after a little driving. All operations seem to be working correctly (with the exception of the touch screen) it seems to not know what it is for a bit, and then it goes back to normal. please help!
Have you tried putting the original radio back in? I am not too familiar with the Gen 1 but there are still some users here. Perhaps @bwilson4web , for instance has some ideas. They buried the Gen 1 forums under the Gen 2 Main forum. Generation 1 Prius Discussion | PriusChat
The Toyota dealer I looked at today is Camelback in Phoenix. $1965.35 minus 3% plus tax. New Toyota HV batteries have only a one year warranty, two years if a Toyota tech installs. My 03 is such a sweet little car that I'm gonna have the cash on hand when the battery starts to die. I've been doing some reading and thinking about what strategy I'll follow when the time comes. Old used Prius batteries are not easy to find here in sunny southern AZ. And seems to me that putting an old battery set in is just kicking the can down the road if you're planning on keeping the car for a while. Did some research on Dorman re-manufactured & they don't look too good. Even with a 3 year warranty, they still use old modules. 14 year old modules are way beyond their service life expectancy. For about $500 more, a Toyota battery comes with all new modules--which is why I'm laying by some extra money for that eventuality.
