The inverter/trans axle coolant reservoir in my 2001 Prius is empty i found a crack on the bottle and damage on the hose, after i fix this what type of fluid can i use in it ? and do i have to remove the air from the lines or just fill it up ? thank you for all your help
toyota TCL fill-remove air... be sure coolant pump is working after filling (you should see it in reservoir window).
The originally specified coolant is the same as for the engine, Toyota Long Life Coolant (the red stuff) mixed 50/50 with distilled water. Reports are that it's also OK to use the 2nd-gen's specified Super Long Life Coolant (the pink stuff) - straight, because it's already mixed 50/50 (and sold for about the same price, such a deal). Bleeding the air (I haven't done it yet, but I have a coolant change on my fall to-do list, eek) seems from the manual and other people's comments to be both very important and very fiddly. There are two bleeder fittings involved, found at the forward edge of the inverter. -Chap
