We have had this prius for several months now. It has 120,000 miles on it and it has been extremely enjoyable =D. A problem began to occur anywhere around 1 month ago. There is a loud sound in the engine and since its a prius and the engine is usually very quite, I am surprised. The sound is not particularly high pitched, and I am not sure from which part it is originating. There are no warning lights inside, including no check engine light. The car has had an oil change in the near past (about 1 week) and has new filters and fluids. I am not sure what caused this, since we were in the dead of winter I thought that it might have been due to the engine warming up, but even after the engine is warmed up the sound continues and I am unsure what the problem is. Thank you
We need some additional information: Does the sound exist when the car is not moving but the engine is? What is the oil level on the dipstick? On the oil receipt, what grade of oil did they indicate and amount? Please update your user control panel indicating: area you live, year of Prius When the engine is off and you are rolling, do you hear a sound? Bob Wilson
