Hi everyone.. Had my tires rotated the other day at 72K miles.. added air to my tires and noticed alot of pitting/bubling of the wheels.. Anyone else have this problem. Talk to the dealer yesterday.. they said it is not covered under any warrenty.. (toyota corrosion or extracare) I am putting in a call to toyota today.. to see what they can do.. the car is only 30 months old... I do not think this should happen.. no matter how many miles are on it... Will let you know what they say....
I'm willing to bet NJ uses road salt to keep the highways clear of ice in winter. In that case, aluminum wheels - even those clear coated to prevent corrosion - will develop "filiform exfoliation" after exposure to that environment. I use dedicated winter tires on steel rims for winter driving, so my factory aluminum wheels still look virgin. It's also much easier to touch up the steel rims when they eventually start to rust, just get a spraybomb of Tremclad Black. There are probably products out there that claim to remove filiform on aluminum. I've had experience with Strike Hold, an aviation product, and LPS Labs LPS 3, for industrial applications. They work as advertised
