Hi I will be receiving a 2004 Toyota Prius with 250,000 miles on it from my dad as a temporary car until I can buy my own car here soon. He has had the batteries, front end, spark plugs, brakes, and tires replaced just recently to make sure it is safe for me. He is the only owner. The engine coils need replacing and there is a shudder when accelerating that is undiagnosed. My question is what else should I expect to need to work on before it would be safe to drive to Texas, over 1000 miles away?
id give it an oil change (take extra oil with you) and replace the air filter and pvc valve ... clean the map sensor .. see if that helps with the shutter.if not you might have a head gasket leak. at that age and mileage the motor is about done so dont spend a lot on it.. the car really doesnt have a lot of value...... just my 2 cents
