I was one of those 'lucky' 2004 owners that got the free DVD upgrade. They gave me the 4.2 version, but I found a major flaw in mine. I live out by Huntsville, AL and the entire city of Madison, AL (adjacent to Huntsville) is gone, except for 2-3 major roads. My old 3.x version had all the side roads and streets to Madison. Now with 4.2, all of Madison is completely blank. The local dealership wasn't very helpful in getting a fix for my problem (they just took note of my problem and 'called Toyota about it'.) Many months later, and no help from them, I'm deciding to do something on my own. Will the 5.1 version work on my 2004 Prius? I've heard there are 2 versions, one for the '04 and one for the '05-'06. My question is if there is a way I can tell the DVDs apart (different serial number, etc). My next question is can I go back to the old 3.1 version I had originally installed in my car.
Actually the versions differ from 2004-2005 and 2006-2007, not 2004 and 2005-2006. In other words, the 5.1 for the 2005 should work in the 2004.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(aaf709 @ Nov 29 2006, 04:04 PM) </div> The reason why I asked is because there's an Ebay seller that is selling a 5.1 NAV DVD, but says the dvd will work for the '05-'06 Prius.
Be aware that this sort of upgrade usually cannot be reversed. At least that was the case with Honda system. Can't be sure for Toyota. After I upgraded my Honda's GPS, my home address does not exist in the data base anymore. I did get tons of new POIs and local routes in rural areas (and updates, of courses). Those tons of local routes slow down route searching ... (hardware upgrade is needed!!!)
