I have a family member who is in the process of buying a 2005 prius. I want to get her an engraved key ring as a gift. I was wondering due to the unusual nature of the prius key if there are any limitations on the type of key ring that would work with the prius key. I've attached a photo of the key ring I'm interested in buying. Does anyone knows if this would work or can tell me if a traditional key ring would work better? I really appreciate any comments! Thank you!![attachmentid=570]
At first blush it looks like it should be alright... but what do the two balls at the end of that ring do? Where does a traditional key fit on this thing? I could see where you could attach the Prius's keyfob to it though.
no worries, go ahead and get her the keyring. it's a very nice gesture of you and i bet she'll appreciate it. the only thing that will interfere with the key working is something like a cell phone that emits radio waves at the same frequency as the key. this is what the key looks like: [Broken External Image]:http://media.popularmechanics.com/images/Prius+key-sm.jpg just be sure the ball on the end of your keyring is bigger than the small ring on the corner of the key and you'll be fine
It will work fine. I carry a similar keyring and just tried it on the prius fob. Remember if your family member gets the SK/SS option they will just leave the fob in their pocket or purse. LaughingMan one of the balls screws off to allow you to put a key on the ring.
I've always wondered about those sphere things as well up until a couple years ago that I asked someone how it worked. They are the stoppers so the keys don't fall off and you can unscrew the balls to add/remove keys.
