Hi! I was rotating tires on my Prius, and found this. (picture) There is a bracket that is attached to the frame cross member that has broken off, about a foot behind the driver's side rear wheel. It is connected with a moveable linkage to something further up under the car. It is like a lever that goes up and down that's maybe connected to the rear suspension? What is this? It looks like is needs to be re-welded back onto the frame, so I hope it isn't too important. (The part in question is out of focus) Thanks for your help!
It is the headlight level device 2004-2009 Toyota Prius Headlight Level Sensor - Body Electrical - Standard Motor Products, Rear Left 04-09 Prius Headlight Level Sensor - 18054-05523039 - PartsGeek
Mine just died, too. Who needs this function? I just unhooked the connector to disable the annoying warning.
people who carry dead bodies in the hatch. you wouldn't want to get puled over cause your headlights were shining in a cops eyes
Like the hitmen, I have always used my Prius to carry cargo, not passengers. So it is heavy, it is farther rearward than passengers, and it varies each trip. (Sadly dead bodies don't fit in the spare tire well. Not that I have checked.)
