Over on detailcity.com, a professional detailer who is also a regular forum contributor worked on a black 2006 Prius this past weekend (the owner was smart enough not to ask for advice here). He used a mild abrasive polish (Poorboy's SSR1) on a rotary polisher to remove the swirls. He stated unequivocally that the black had a clear coat.
Yes. It does. My black 2005 has a clear coat. Most all cars these days no matter what color have a clear coat. They've all had clear coat since the mid to late 90s. Some before, but the clear coats have improved. Why would you think it didn't?
Most true blacks historically have not had clear. Near blacks have clear, metallics blacks have clear, but good ole black is usually just black. Nate
