2006 instrument cluster panel cracked

This morning, after starting the car and removing the heat shield, I noticed what appeared to be a vertical scratch in the instrument cluster panel, where it has tapered down to a few inches and is above the MFD.
On closer inspection it is not a scratch, it is a crack clear through but stopping a hair before reaching the top.
I've taken pictures, and so far see nothing else out of whack in surrounding areas of dash, but will check more extensively when the sun moves to the back of the house.

I always have the "Heat shield" in place...but that is more for comfort and economy......structurally the car should be able to handle heat and glare......I also have tried having windows cracked a little, but we are starting to get typical Southern afternoon rain storms popping up and I don't want the car getting soaked either.

Acccck, I still wouldn't have bought anything but the Prius, but I am concerned that this might be just the beginning...and I am worried about level of familiarity shops around here have with the Prius. Guess it is time to call the dealer.
