2006 Prius Passenger Rear Brake Light won't light up

    I was told the Led went out and I would have to buy a complete assembly Part 8155147100.

    Is this correct? Is there anyway to just replace the led?

    I looked at after mark replacements, but after reading some of the reviews, I think I should buy a genuine Toyota replacement.

    Yes, that is correct.

    It is not a serviceable part, but it has been done by at least one person.

    I would not recommend it to anyone to do unless they have good manual skills, some electronic experience and a keen desire to do it just because it can be done.

    No brake lights in all gen 2 Priuses are leds in the assembly. Just as dolj told.

    The brake light in the upper portion of the rear light assembly is composed of several LEDs.
    The other lights within that assembly are incandescent bulbs which can be individually replaced.

    If the OP wants to repair the brake light, it is necessary to cut open the assembly for access to the circuit board, to begin with. Some electronics tech knowledge is assumed as it is necessary to apply 2V to each LED to see which one has failed. If a resistor has failed, then it is necessary to figure out which one using an ohmmeter and comparing to the resistor markings. Obviously it is also necessary to be able to source replacement parts and solder them on the circuit board, observing the correct polarity when installing any LEDs.
