I am going to be as explicit as possible because I do not have any real mechanics who specialize in hybrids where I live so I would like to provide some starting points for them. All the dash lights, red triangle, brakes, etc came on the dash and the vehicle would stall out and then eventually would not go into D after a few attempts at starting it. I tried to diagnose myself and at first thought it was the 12V battery so I replaced it and it worked for about 30 minutes and then all the lights came back on. I had the hybrid diagnosed and the generic 526 code came up and my warranty company replaced the hybrid for me. The interesting thing is that while I was waiting for the hybrid battery which took about 6 weeks, the new 12v battery completed drained and could not be recharged. When I received the new hybrid which is a reconditioned one, and put in a new 12v battery, the car ran fine for about a month. The last time it was driven, it initially felt like it would not accelerate and was a bit jerky and the hybrid read purple and one bar but after about 5 minutes of driving the battery improved to 3 bars and turned blue and it drove fine. I reached my destination which was about 40 minutes away and parked for about 2 hours. I started it back up and it drove fine for about 1/4 of a mile and then all the lights came on the dash again and it completed stalled out. I was able to coast to a safe location. The car could be started and could move it a few feet but it would stall again. It sat for a few days and I then restarted it and it "ready on" but it had a rough idle for about 5 seconds and then would stall out. I disconnected the 12v battery and waited for 15 minutes and reconnected it but it still would start with all lights flashing but would stall out. The last attempt it would not ready on. I called a tow truck and it is at the shop, but as stated before my one and only mechanic is not the best and would like some help if anyone has any suggestions. I will have the codes read but cannot guarantee he will be able to pull the subcodes if it throws a 526.

Your description of the 526 code, needs to be followed by another info code. 611-614. It will help you to figure out where the error is occuring.

When you stated you have a warranty, you should just bring it to a dealer and let them do a proper diagnosis for it. Don't be a parts cannon and throw parts at it (like 12v batteries).

And the repair of a hybrid battery using a "refurbished" one, can in fact fail again after a month. So sadly that failure might have happened again. Only real way to fix a bad hybrid battery, would be to get a brand new OEM one.

^Yes you need the proper tools to see what the computers don't like and why it's throwing codes - so a Toyota specific diagnostic code reader needs to be used to drill down to the actual problem. If you got an extended warranty on that car, you should take it to Toyota - so it's diagnosed and fixed properly. The dealership had resources that your local mechanic don't have (ie. OEM specific diagnostic unit), even if they don't have a hybrid specific technician on-site - they could at least get one on the phone to walk their own technicians through the diagnostic and repair stages.
I suspect that you also have an electrical system issue, in the form of a parasitic draw in you system. Something isn't turning-off and is slowly drawing down your new battery.
There may be an inverter recall for your car, check with Toyota or NTSB to confirm.

    Good Luck.
