I think I need to replace the rear brake (drum pads) on my 2006 Prius. Done front brakes on other cars, but never rear brakes on any car. For a Prius, how difficult is this? Can someone provide a video or diagrams of how it's done? Also, are there any special "gotchas" with the Prius?
The rear brake drum assembly is a conventional design. Consult techinfo.toyota.com for factory repair manual info. It is not particularly difficult to replace the rear brake shoes. The lining thickness when new is 4 mm; replace when the thickness is 1 mm. Disconnect the 12V battery before you start work to ensure the skid control ECU does not power up the brake actuator pump while you are working on the car.
