Looking at a 2007 Pirius Touring car at the dealership. The price is not listed. Say's should come in & ask. What should I look for? What price is to much & mileage? Thanks
Don't play their game - don't go to the dealer, don't even call. Why? Because the ONLY reason that they would be withholding information is to put the potential customer at a disadvantage. Now, why would you ever want to start the car-buying process with someone who plays that sort of game from the start? If it were a good price and they knew it, they'd list it.
If you have a credit union, call them, give them the details (preferably the VIN) and ask them what loan value is and pay no more than maybe $1000 over that number. You can also key in the VIN, state and mileage here: Black Book to get an idea of what the car is worth. Look at "average trade value" since there is a good chance that the car was bought at auction and this is closer to what retail should be. I would recommend foregoing KBB and NADA.
American Express has a New and Used car buying program w/ pretty rock bottom prices. If you don't have AmEx, have a friend/family member who does log onto their account on-line to see what pricing looks like. California dealerships list prices; don't know if Virginia dealerships will. Costco also has an auto buying program too, but only NEW. KBB, Edmunds, and other on-line sites to get pricing is a great idea. Good luck.
Does the dealer or car appear in the AAA buying program? Did you contact the dealer through their website? If you can't get data via e-mail or over the phone then don't waste your time over this one.
