Many of us have long believed that the latest Toyota Prius model was the first hybrid car available on world markets, when, in fact, the Prius is in its third generation at the global level and in its second in Canada. Here's some trivia for you: The first Prius was sold only in Japan and was available by special order on other markets, such as England. Full Article Not bad but has a few errors
Nice article. Thanks. According to Wikipedia, the Prius was the first mass-produced hybrid, entering the Japan-only market in 1997, but not being released to the world market (U.S.) until 2001. The Honda Insight was released to the world market up on it's initial release, in 1999. So although the Prius was created two years earlier than the Insight, the Insight appeared on American roads two years before the Prius. (as nostalgia, I have always considered the Insight to have come first)
