Have a 2012 Prius v with 27k, so I'm not a Prius novice. Need to replace a 1997 Camry with 300k on its last legs. Would be either a commuter car or very short mileage around town car (depending on which kid gets to drive it - or maybe I'll take it and keep my Prius v for later!!). $8500 private sale. Anyway, it is one owner, superclean, base model. Drives very nicely, no rust, new tires, water pump was replaced around 90k. Carfax is perfect. But... 133k on the traction battery... I think the Gen 3 controls are quite a bit nicer, but otherwise the car looks very, very nice. Another option we have is a 2012 Honda Civic LX (not hybrid), 95k miles - also 1 owner, very clean, high mpg (relatively) vehicle. But, it will like be at least $10k. I know there isn't a right answer, but wondering what the general consensus might be on a higher mileage Prius like thia.
Sounds pretty good. Obviously you bear the risk of any failures such as the traction battery, inverter, transaxle etc., so you should be prepared to fund those repairs as needed. If you are reasonably lucky you should get some good service from the car before incurring any large repair bills. Good luck with your decision.
