I'm looking for reputable independent shop to do regular service near the Eastside (Redmond,Bellevue WA). Do not want to continue with dealership servicing now that prepaid service pkg is done. Any recommendations? Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Just out of curiosity, how was the dealership service? Did they rub you the wrong way, push extras? Or not so bad, it's just you're hoping to save money? I'd look before leaping, especially considering you have service "history" with the dealership. And they will be more inclined to use kosher parts/supplies, and are best positioned to do diagnosis if/when problems arise.
Some issues, due to being a proprietary product can only be addressed by Toyota. General maintenance, most any place can handle it. What do you want done?
There are very few parts of the world with a large number of Prius owners here on PriusChat. Changing your title to include your area may attract knowledgeable folks and incite fewer folks from elsewhere in the universe.
I don't have a specific need at the moment. Would be typical oil change, lube. Understand the proprietary nature of this technology and would work with dealership if needed. I am looking for referral to a reputable mechanic should I have a need. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
With the exception of Brake work, all routine maintenance on a Prius is doable by any competent mechanic. There is odd trickery in bleeding the brakes.
I agree routine maintenance is just that, anyone, even DIY'r, can do it. One concern, say something like transaxle fluid change: an independent garage might be more likely to suggest something other than the Toyota fluid. And some services require either Techstream, or workarounds, and access to the Repair Manuals, for detailed instructions, torque values, fluid quantities, and so on.
