I know there's another thread for the airbag recall generally, but I just caught this post on Facebook and thought it should be pointed out to 3rd gen owners. Toyota recalls half million US cars over faulty airbags - BBC News
From safercar.gov for my 2010's VIN: NHTSA Recall Number: WAITING# Recall Date: June 28, 2016 Manufacturer Recall Number: G1U SUMMARY: The involved vehicles are equipped with curtain shield air bags (CSA) in the driver and passenger side roof rails that have air bag inflators composed of two chambers welded together.? Some inflators could have a small crack in the weld area joining the chambers, which could grow over time, and lead to the separation of the inflator chambers.? This has been observed when the vehicle is parked and unoccupied for a period of time. SAFETY RISK: If an inflator separates, the CSA could partially inflate, and, in limited circumstances, one or both sections of the inflator could enter the interior of the vehicle. If an occupant is present in the vehicle, there is an increased risk of injury. REMEDY: RECALL STATUS: Recall INCOMPLETE. Remedy not yet available
Interesting...does not seem to say it is Takata airbag issue. I think this may fit with an owner who posted here a weeks ago that Toyota was asking some folks to bring in their vehicles for airbag check.
