Good afternoon, I have looked around the site and haven't found any threads similar to this issue that I'm having. Most threads point to the infamous "Death rattle" in gen 3 prius but my car is having a voilent shake in the lower part of the engine. It started when I was doing a door dash order and going up a steep hill. Here is a video of the engine running. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
That's essentially the death rattle I have a 2013 with a new engine in it that ran fine for four or five months and then just started out of nowhere doing that same thing sometimes it won't do it for a few minutes but it does it more than not so I've just parked the car and not even fooled with it I changed the EGR valve and messed around with some things here and there nothing It's just a problematic symptom of the design of this drive line unfortunately apparently it only happens in FXE designation for Prius the same engine in a Corolla I've never seen this happen I've been with Toyota almost 50 years I know a little bit about em . I've just given up on the 2013 I wouldn't waste my time throwing money at it It just keeps rattling and you can't drive it or you don't want to drive it You don't want to just blow something up or crack a whole block assembly like the first one so you either got to make a choice to back off and get something real that you can deal with or dive right in I would recommend not diving right in unless you just have money that you can afford to essentially burn and some people do no issue but I do wish you luck generally this does not go well
Welcome to the death rattle that goes away quickly precluding plugs, coils or injectors. Will pass compression, leak down and coolant gas tests. May not happen every time - sometimes days or weeks between occutances. Shudder video “Hey Walt… they want to wait and see if it gets worse…” Car Care Nut HG Borescope at 7:40
Second this. Also, have the EGR components, and the intake manifold, ever been cleaned, and if so at what miles?
