HELP please. I have a 2010 Prius (I, II, III I don't know???) that completely shut down in the middle of the interstate, I had to have it towed to Toyota. No clue where else to take it so I took it to the dealership..... Bought used with a 2 year/ 20k mile warranty.... LUCKY ME the warranty expired about 4k miles ago! Toyota tells me that the inverter has gone out and repairs will cost me $3,100 minimum. Advice??? I am extremely upset over this as I read that these cars were very durable. I did alot of research before purchase and was warned about these types of things by many people, didn't listen and now I wish I had.
How many miles are on it? Per the warranty booklet I downloaded via Toyota Online Owners Manuals and Warranty, it should be covered for 8 years/100K miles. Who are those "many people"? Do they own hybrids or Priuses? I'd consider what you experienced to be a safety defect. Although it probably won't help your case immediately (and might not at all), I'd file a safety complaint w/NHTSA at Home | Safercar -- National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
yes how many miles in total? i geus toyota already checked it but still good thing to look at. maybe you still have warranty. and if you have like 500.000 miles on it.. then maybe the warnings where not that stupid ;-)
I smell a troll, despite having suffered inverter failure myself. Mine failed at 70,000 miles and was replaced outside of the UK 60,000 mile warranty by Toyota. My understanding is that the warranty in the US is either 100,000 or 150,000 miles and this should cover a 2010 US Prius - unless the op does a LOT of miles.
Inverter is covered under warrenty from toyta upto 100,000 miles unless you are above those and if you live in california then it is upto 150,000 miles. no cost to you in such case.
Or 60,000 miles if you're unfortunate to live in the UK. Toyota did pay for my replacement inverter at 70,000 miles but I had to pay the diagnostics and fitting. Maybe that's why Americans are happy with the Prius? If it needs an expensive part it's covered upto 150,000 miles, whereas here you pray that Toyota will give you it on a good will basis.
nothing makes a statement better than dipping sales. but i think our warranty is all due to california and the states that copied them.
It has just over 112k miles. No warranty. Purchased a warranty when we bought it (used) for 20k miles. We are having a sales manager look at it to get a price if we decided to trade. Sales guy doesn't think that the inverter is the issue, he thinks it is a plug. But every time I call no one has had time to look at it!
