Hello Prius people! Tomorrow, Brad_Rules_Man and I will be traveling in hi 2010 Prius blizzard perl package V w/ Adv. Technology. This will be like, my 5th time driving the car and the best fuel economy I have gotten in it so far is only 58.1mpg in highway && city driving, and I knew I could do better. Is there any techniques I can use other than pushing EV in the city, and pulse and glide on interstate? Thanks!
Actually, I would argue that niether of those two techniques will get you above the MPG that are getting now. If you look through the forum, there are many article posted about how to get the best mileage, and virtually all of them suggest that you NOT use the EV mode, if mileage is your primary goal. Instead, just ease off your foot to keep the vehicle in the Electric mode as much as possible, instead of trying to force it. It's your demand on the throttle which will determine this. As for pulse and glide, in my own personal experience (I purchased my 2010 Prius V Navi in June of last year, and now have 27k miles on it) I have found that to be much more effective at speed lower than highway (such as the 25-45 MPH streets). On the highway, the amount of energy used to get you back to full speed takes away from the most efficient driving. Instead, try to get up to speed slowly, and maintain one speed as mush as possible. This will allow you to run in Electric more, and generally gain a higher mpg average. By doing this last summer, I had some tankfuls average over 65mpg (based on the display - 62.1 based on fuel purchased and distance driven).
Thank you sir. I love this little car, and i'm going to be driving it over 300 miles tomorrow, and wanted to try and get the best mileage. It's a 2010 Prius V w/ blizzard perl and Advanced Technology Package. It even has IPA, LKA, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Ect. Lets just say it has everything you can get on the car. haha. Anyways, thanks for the reply, and have a good one!
