Hello, I have a 2011 Prius that currently sits outside here in Phoenix. Temperatures can reach 110 and slightly hotter. I have a windshield sunscreen that I use, and realize that the 12V battery may reach end of life faster, but I am just concerned about the main hybrid battery. Are there any concerns with heat in terms of leaving it parked outside for these 3rd Gen Prius batteries? I have not seen too many concerns posted, so assuming it should be fine, but wanted to check in with others and get thoughts about this.
Mine is always parked outside in Tucson. We're typically about 10 degrees F cooler than Phoenix. Keep it in the shade if possible, and make use of the air conditioning. I just replaced my 12V aux battery at 8 years, but I used a battery conditioner once a month which seemed to help maintain it. I drive a lot also, 35K a year, which is what these cars really like. Put a lot of miles on the vehicle and have no worries about the hybrid battery. Welcome to Prius Chat!
welcome! also, have your windows tinted as dark as legally possible. make sure your battery cooling fan is clean and the intake grille is always clear. worst thing is driving, then parking the hot battery all day in the sun. there is only so much you can do, and the batteries definitely degrade faster in the heat.
