Just changed out the trim pieces from grey to black. It's very simple, no tools needed. Just remove the panel that surrounds the radio by pulling back on it from the corners. Unplug the emergency switch. Once that is removed, pull off the air vent on the passenger side. Start pulling up from the right on the upper trim. After that is removed, start pulling up on the bottom trim starting from the right to the bottom left. Install in reverse. Don't forget to plug the switch back in! I like that. I'm gonna do the top panel only and see how it looks. Is the top panel all snaps, or are there some screws? It looks like the top panel could be removed without removing the radio surround. Possible? X
Everything is just snapped in, no screws or bolts. So be careful when pulling, and don't force anything that doesn't feel right. You should remove the radio surround. It's not that hard and takes an additional 15 seconds.
Thanks for the clear instructions. I was hesitant to tear the dash up, but it went well. I just finished painting mine black and it looks great. Since the day I bought my C, I haven't liked that cheap looking grey dash. I left the lower piece grey for contrast. Thanks again for the good idea. X
The paint I used to on mine was Krylon Fusion for Plastics, Satin Black. I've used it before and it holds up well. X
Yes, I took it off, too difficult to mask. B2finity above posted good instructions on how to remove it. It really was simple, just be careful. Lightly spray 3 coats, don't let it build up. X
