I'm not sure how else to phrase this. Every other door shows up as open (when open) on the HUD except for the driver's door. There's no alert or dinging when driving, so I guess it's always registering as closed. Has anyone else had this issue?
I've fiddled with the switch where the door closes, but I didn't see one by the hinges. I'll check that out, and see what happens. I also have an email into the dealer asking if they will fix it. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
You most likely have a drivers door switch that is stuck CLOSED. This is why the interior lights do not come on when the driver's door is open. The spring and sliding mechanism likely just need some oil.
I'm guessing just under the rubber nipple on the door post? Heh. Nipple. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
I don't know what the Gen3 door switch looks like or where it is situated. Assuming if it is like the Gen2s, there should be a screw holding it to the door jamb. Remove the screw and carefully pull the switch out. Apply some lube to the spring and the slider. Tri Flow or a lubricant that is formulated for the garage door spring. WD40 as a last resort.
Got into the sensor housing on the door post, found the mechanism. It's moving freely, but nothing is registering. I'm betting on a break in the wire somewhere along the way, and I'll leave it to the pros.
Did you pull the door switch out completely? There usu is a wire that attaches to the switch. Assuming the wire is still attached to the switch: 1) a break somewhere in the wire. 2) the switch is bad. 3) both a break and a bad switch.
You bet. Pulled the switch, red wire still firmly attached. Put it all back together, and I'll wait to hear from the dealer tomorrow to see if they'll make good on it.
Swap driver door switch with a working switch. If the front and rear door switches look the same, swap a known working switch with the front driver door switch. If the rear door switches look different from the front door switches, you will have to swap front passenger door switch with front driver door switch. This will then tell you it is a switch or wire problem. If the swapped switch makes the driver door trigger the lights, it is a defective switch. If the swapped switch does NOT trigger the lights, it is a wire problem.
