    Hi everyone,

Im having trouble starting my 2012 prius. When I press the brake no ignition light comes on for the start button. I checked the 12v battery and its at 9.4v health which is really bad. However the horn, headlights are working.

i tried to jump start it but no luck. I tried to also jump start the starter battery upfront, this time when i pressed the brake the usual engine and brake sounds came up but the ignition start button did not light up. I tried to hook it up to the cary battery of a 2018 Camry, but same issue no ignition start light but horn and headlights worked.

I changed the hybrid battery earlier this year so i dont think its that. I want to assume a new 12v battery will fix it but when i hooked it up to the car battery of the camry nothing changed.

do i need to get a new battery since using a different car battery still didnt help?

Do you have a way to scan the car for codes just to see if there's anything I mean the hybrid battery being replaced unless there's been some problems any lights lately for the hybrid system or any of that going on? You just have to think what led up to this 9.4% health out of what 10%. I don't really know what that means If you're horn works generally amps are pretty good or reasonable considering we don't have a starter or anything You're 12 volt is doing nothing but running computers and lights so it doesn't have to spin a starter over or anything like that so it's a pretty easy life for the battery although it doesn't get charged at the rate of a spinning alternator of a regular car. So there's always that but if the car is driven off and enough this usually doesn't become a problem sitting is the worst thing for these things. With the added backup of jumper cables and a running car I would think you would be pretty much eliminating the problem of your battery even though it still connected now if it's really bad that could change but like I say honking the horn if you hold the horn button down say for 5 seconds does the horn drastically decrease in sound or noticeably audiably change?. Good luck I wouldn't run to change the battery just yet if you're using a jump pack or jumper cables off of a known good battery in a car that's running.

Take the old battery out of the circuit and see if you can jump it

i tried scanning but it wouldn't let me, since the car had no power. It would however let me check the battery health which was at 9.4. This car battery is 6-7 years old and it was dying last year, I’ve been jump starting the car whenever it got a little cold. My only reason for the jumper cables not working was because the car I used didn't have a compatible car battery.

Doors also dont unlock with the key but the key has batteries. Its just weird that like some things in the car has power some dont. If this was a blown fuse which fuse would cause this?

disconnect the 12v terminals from the battery, and hook the jumper cables to the positive and negative terminals to see if the car will start.

tried but didnt work, i actually went today and got new 12v battery atill same issue.

im just not understanding why interior lights would work, brake lights work, so does the horn but i cant unlock the car with the key electronically. Wondering if its to do with the hybrid pack
