I currently have a 2010 Prius IV that has a lease ending December. I want to go to the plug-in version. The dealer is currently offering great deals on the 2012 model. He told me that there will be no difference between the 2012 and 2013 models, so why not get the 2012 at a savings of over $100 per month. Knowing how reliable car salesman are, I've been trying to research this. I haven't been able to find out what differences there are. Does anyone have that information?
Based on toyotas track record, there won't be any changes till 2014. They have always made minor changes by the 3rd year any specific gen release date. ie: gen2 was a 04-05 then 06-09 was a mid-year face lift. gen3 was a 10-11 then 12-current was a mid-year face lift.
I would be surprised by any changes, except maybe cosmetics like different light lenses or wheels. I seriously doubt they will re-tool for a car they just started shipping last February.
Toyota overshot demand for the PHV, that's why there are these awesome programs. Also Toyota is doing things differently in terms of introductions. For instance. 2013 Rav4's will not bee here until next spring.
I'd go for the 2012 deal. I'd bet that once the inventories are down on the PIPs, the deals will go away. The current one is until 11/5.
I have been working for a Toyota Dealer for 6 years and the incentives on the PHV are unprecedented for Toyota. That is how bad the estimated the demand for the PHV.
normally i would agree that there will only cosmetic changes for 2013 but with Energi coming out with a 20 mile range, i think we might see a slightly larger range on the Prius to compete
Wait and see. The price on leftover 2012's will only go down and, who knows, maybe they'll give you option for a solar sun roof on the plug-in.
....I'd be tempted to lock in the excellent 2o12 deals, as always shop around. But on 3DTV's I waited to Black Friday lasy year and the price went up. Right now we are talking ~$27500 on PiP purchase after Toyota incentives. Federal $2500 credit after that. Don't forget the LIPA $500 PiP incentive in NY, not sure if lease or purchase matters.
There was a post here today on this subject, talked about price increases on the '13's and said there were no changes in the Pip from 12 to 13, can't remember the thread tho ..........
