Aquired a 13 Prius 19X k miles not in great shape. Trim package 2 so among a dead engine there were a few other things lacking. So i replaced engine with a 50k one from salvage. Power polished dead paint, shampooed inside. Replaced seats with leather pwr lumbar heated. Scrubbed headlights with trtlwax replaced low beams with $60 Fahren LEDs. etc. etc. but the stereo still didnt sound right. I could barely hear the rears when fade was on rear. The dash spkrs were almost as quiet. So i bought a new pair of JL c2-350x dash speakers and a pair of infinity 6x9 and some jbl oem rear doors from salvage and a dsp. Installed..... and..... compared with jbl 2010 in mint condition and........ Strike 1 the JL 3.5" C2s did not perform or bring out the detail that the oem jbl 3" dash spraker did. Ordered pair of jbl dash from a 2010 salvage.

Now dash speakers were beautiful sound.

Strike 2... rear door speakers were now jbl oem from 2008. Still quiet comparatively. Put in an amp. Ground isolation noise....In goes a 400w 12/120v inverter tucked under shift, and a 120/24v Fosi amp. Now the rears are clear as a bell and beautiful detail. Then a 10" under seat sub slides under psssenger seat. With some setup, beautiful blended bass with rears and lots of punch. I love low volume detail, my hearing is excellent and at low volume i hit bypass on dsp and it was unbelievable, a noisefloor disappears and leaves behind crystal clear audio at minimum volume level. Zero hash or hiss, just like the jbl system. I know some here dont like the oem jbl system in the 2010 but ive a tough time saying anything neg about it. Its just awesome. I dont listen to rap and i dont need a sub in that car it has very high quality bass that a sub may wash out. In comparison this 2013 audio is at least as good as the 10 and admittedly better when it comes to volume and bass. Im not done yet. The dsp has to come out and another fosi amp will go in and the front doors will try the 6x9 infinity but if detail isnt there, oem jbl are going in.

The takeaway. For cheap high quality audio upgrade. Go get used jbls from salvage and swap in. Order a couple Fosi amps and high to low level conv. If you have to have seat shaking bass then add the sub. For 3-$400 you have awesome sound. I choose to keep oem head unit because of look and hands free design. When you get into car with bluetooth on the car will autoconnect and allow you to choose tracks from touchscreen on dash. The high quality audio only exists through bluetooth or cd. Not sure why but aux was not clean, nor is fm radio. Hope this helps somebody. Its certainly not the only way to go but its a very good way to go.

High quality audio thru Bluetooth lost all credibility to this post.
