Hi everyone, new member here. I am looking to get a new car here soon and am leaning towards the the 2013 Prius 3. I have a few questions that hopefully you all can answer or give advice. I drive 17,000 miles per year. That is a 150 mile round trip, 135 highway, 15 city. Speed limit is 70, so I drive 75 so I don't get run over. Will this car handle it comfortably? I know the faster I go, it lowers the mpg. But, could I get 40 mpg highway? I know the little city driving will help the average mpg. I am looking forward to your input. Thanks all! iPhone ?
welcome! 40 is easily doable. one thing to consider for that much windshield time is the seats. you may want to consider power leather, and even then, 150 miles a day is a lot. tyres are also important, and good ones might cost you a couple mpg's. have you taken a test drive yet?
I usually get around 45-46 MPG traveling at 75 MPH on flat roads, it also depends on what the condition of the road is (can get much higher on smooth roads, while much lower on rougher gravel roads), and the incline of the road you're traveling.
More like single lane, rough farm to market roads, which I sometimes travel to visit parks and camping areas, MPG drops to near 40...
Then you'll be fine. I drive 80 mile round trip commute every day and go 70-75mph and average 45-47 mpg on the dash. 4 of those miles are getting from house to freeway then from freeway to work, so similar driving ratio to what you will do. This is in a 2010 Prius II which has basic accommodations. I find the interior comfortable enough. How many miles on the 2013 you are considering? Does it come with a maintenance history for reference?
I have been finding them with 30 - 40,000 miles. It seems like they are coming off of lease. I don't think they do, other than doing a carfax report.
prius use low rolling resistance tyres. some complain about their high speed performance. especially in crosswinds or poor roads.
