Just got the c, only 1000 miles now. The car has done this twice, I insert the key and it won't turn. It just locks. Not sure what's causing it and I haven't exactly figured out how to fix it when it does happen
How will wiggling the spare tire help? Yes, maybe the steering wheel lock is engaged. While turning the key, try moving the steering wheel to the left or right.
That did seem to fix it today, I wasn't sure why though. However, I thought when I wiggled the wheel, it caused the problem the first time .
Turning the steering wheel with the ignition off will definitely engage the steering wheel locking mechanism. However, if the wheel lock is engaged, especially when parked on a grade, then sometimes you have to tug on the wheel a bit to get it to unlock while turning the key.
T thanks, I'll give it a try next time. I bet I bump the wheel (bottom of the wheel and my thigh rub) when I get in the car and engage the lock.
