So, I had a post way back when of a gen 1 Prius id bought and I wasn't mechanically or technologically inclined as I am now. But here is what I've been doing. To sum up, I've posted in another forum which I won't link, but I didn't get much... Help over there. Summary: a dying battery which I believe really just needs a recondition, car enters limp mode (ICE always on) and it eats gas. I tried sitting with the battery out on my table for 4 days, discharging to about 1v to charging to 8+v put it back in with no balance and it got worse. Next, tried balancing it after I failed to charge it. I have a sphegatti monster photo here. Right now I'm using this (HTRC T240 Duo) to auto cycle 5 times because I think capacity is the problem, I have 4 cells I bought off Amazon. 1 I bought off eBay. I am dropping each cell to .5v and it's recording capacity in mAh which is weird because it says I only have like 900mAh which doesn't sound right... Anyway, short story short that's where I'm at. Continue on for all the other stuff I did on the car. I replaced all the lights with LEDs because I hate putting unneeded stress on charging systems plus they're bright plus they last FOREVER! I had changed the spark plugs because my upstream O2 was reading 16 and that was not cool so afterwards I got it down to about 2 - 5 which is fine. The valve cover gasket is toast, it's a NYC taxi cab and was definitely treated like trash. They got gasket material all over the valves and cleaned it up, I'll replace the gasket once I save up, I'm poor lol. The 3rd spark plug hole had a lot of oil, definitely needs a new gasket but I tried to recondition it as best I could and it's down to a small trickle of oil which I think is fair. The holes on the top of the car were all body filled and it doesn't leak like I'm driving in the ocean floor. There's still a lot of weird wiring that needs to be cleaned up and I plan on cleaning the engine, inside, out. Why? I love projects. The e-cvt or Power Distribution thing... Got emptied and refilled, the oil was BLACK, was absolutely surprised when I didn't see metallic pieces in there. Future projects: - I have to get new door gaskets a lot of them are broken, this'll probably help with the condensation that keeps getting in. - get all the stupid screws out that they just blasted in, like seriously, screws? Really? - ripping out all the carpet, plastic, and covers and cleaning them up and/or replacing them if need be. - suspension is definitely a problem haven't looked underneath yet but I can FEEL it. - tires are the cheapest things you can buy, I want this thing to be able to handle snow, sleet, water, hail, apocalypses. - lastly paint it myself, and put my YouTube channel on the side of it. Also, this car was $1100 and it's got 326k on the clock. I want it to reach 1 million at all costs. I'm also keeping it exactly how it is, it has the divider for the passengers and everything, I love this thing, it's comfy, it's fast for a dying battery, auto climate is a game changer. I love it more than my 50k miles 2015 Chrysler 200, and when I get this bad boy running 100% I'm going to be so happy!!!
Update, I was talking to a guy in Virgina which, he does this for a living. Told me I had a gen 3 cell which... It was. All the cells I have currently look original from the car, I have all the serial numbers written down. 2 of the modules I thought were bad were bad, the other 2 are good. I can't really tell their capacity because my charger is set to stop at 7200mAhs which I thought was a good set point but now I'm kinda confused, they go higher? I'm doing one last cycle test before I go to bed and start cycling the actual cells in the frame. What SHOULD the limit be? I do need a baseline to get all the other cells to be somewhat aligned with the highest cell. We'll see, any of you doing this, notes notes notes, it helps SOOO much. I numbered all my batteries and there are some that I bought off Amazon that look... Weird. Here is my notes: 1: 219RMM09519QMB1 2: 219RMM09520QMB1 3: 219RMM09521QMB1 4: 219RMM09522QMB1 5: 219RMM09523QMB1 6: 219RMM09524QMB1 7: 219RMM09525QMB1 8: 219RMM09526QMB1 9: 219RMM09527QMB1 10: 219RMM09528QMB1 11: 219RMM09529QMB1 12: 229R1N11660QMB2 13: 229R1N11676QMB2 14: 229R1N11677QMB2 15: 229R1N11678QMB2 16: 229R1N11661QMB2 17: 229R1N11674QMB2 18: 229R1N11662QMB2 19: 229R1N11682QMB2 20: 229R1N11683QMB2 21: 219RMM09538QMB1 22: 219RMM09539QMB1 23: 219RMM09540QMB1 24: 272LBT01613NB5 25: 272LBT01602NB5 26: 272LBT01607NB5 27: 153Q7P15591KB4 28: 229R1N11669QMB2 29: 229R1N11670QMB2 30: 154H2A12265D 31: 229R1N11672QMB2 32: 229R1N11673QMB2 33: 229R1N11668QMB2 34: 229R1N11675QMB2 35: 229R1N11671QMB2 36: 229R1N11663QMB2 37: 229R1N11681QMB2 38: 229R1N11680QMB2 39: 229R1N11679QMB2 The car takes 34 cells, I bought 5 because I was measuring wrong and thought I had 5 bad cells, I was doing the whole thing wrong. Thank the electricity gods for rc chargers, makes life simple. #30 was a 2006 cell that was supposed to be 2014 or newer, #27 was the gen 3 cell. Luckily I did this today and was able to return both of them, what's odd is 24-26 are all the Amazon bought ones with, weird serial numbers, or maybe that's just me. But so far I have 2 extra cells, depending on how many of the cell batteries are bad/good. And here is my question: I have done 15 cycles for the two toast batteries #36 and #37 and they aren't that old... Is it possible and with what settings please can I revive them at? I've gotten them at 2700mAh but they don't seem to move at all. Is it okay to set the capacity limit high just to get a baseline or is that a big no, no?
So, I got around to cleaning the HV fan I tried finding a way to take off the actual propeller, but no alas, there were a few hairs I couldn't get out but it spins freely and I wanted to test and see if it spins on its own, the battery never got anywhere near 90F and I tried forcing with Dr.Prius app and I don't remember seeing or hearing anything but I really don't remember. Problem is when I look this thing up I get a lot of 2 pin connectors, this one has 4, so I assume there's some sort of computer in there. I tried testing resistance too and nothing. Either the fan is shot, without me knowing 100% I will not know for sure. Anyone know the connector? Also, for anyone that cares, I've got a cell with 5mAhs for capacity. I also bought that one on Amazon so that'll be going back... EVHybrid is failing me but I got a guy that'll give me a 5500 capacity one for cheap. So that's good. Right now I got 9 at 7200 and a lot at 4000 - 5000 range, I might just pair them up good to bad and after I see if I can revive them let's hope.
I do not know how this happened... This one of the bad cells that has regained more than 8000mAh... The cut off is at 8000 this... This might take another couple weeks. So I can get the balancing right. I expected them to regain around 6000... Not this much.
So, just an update, when I got the new imax B6 V2 it came with the ability to measure internal resistance. The cheap knock off Imax B6 is not helpful at all. I started using the other two (since they are the legit chargers) to check the knockoff, what I see is, the knock off says they reach to 8000 mAhs, stops charging. I think that's great they get up to 9.2v, now I thought it was good because it was sort of "injecting" a charge. When I re-cycled with either of the two legit chargers, it looks as if it does absolutely nothing to them. I will be returning the charger and getting a legit one. If anything when I cycle through they do get better, some take longer, others vastly improve. The resistances look wonderful, none too high, none too low. I'm going to recheck 3 because that is one of my top cells and it just doesn't seem right. Other than that I should of used a different method to note take my batteries. Seems like Excel is a wonderful and way better, organized option. 1: 219RMM09519QMB1 C=8000 +CC R=158mohms 2: 219RMM09520QMB1 C=8000 +CC R=134m 3: 219RMM09521QMB1 C=7507 D=7884 R=261m 4: 219RMM09522QMB1 C=6356 D=6465 C=6517 D=5579 R=139m 5: 219RMM09523QMB1 C=4343 D=3451+ R= D=8000^ + C=8000 6: 219RMM09524QMB1 C=4980 D=4740 +C=8000 R=169m 7: 219RMM09525QMB1 C=8000 +C=2313 D=1682 R=153m 8: 219RMM09526QMB1 C=8000 +C=4425 D=3706 R=144m 9: 219RMM09527QMB1 C=8000 +C=3461 D=2314 R=153m 10: 219RMM09528QMB1 C=8000 +C=4152 D=4152 11: 219RMM09529QMB1 C=8000+ C=2616 D=1531 SDR=151 12: 229R1N11660QMB2 C=8000+ C=2450 D=1512 13: 229R1N11676QMB2 C=6037 D=5129 R=136m 14: 229R1N11677QMB2 C=4349 D=3536 +C=5141 D=4098 R=148m 15: 229R1N11678QMB2 C=6333 D=7062 R=172m 16: 229R1N11661QMB2 C=8000 + R=156m 17: 229R1N11674QMB2 C=8000 R=167m 18: 229R1N11662QMB2 C=2595 D=1772 C=8000 R=147m 19: 229R1N11682QMB2 C=8000 R=137m 20: 229R1N11683QMB2 C=7788 D=6476 R=161m 21: 219RMM09538QMB1 - R=158m 22: 219RMM09539QMB1 C=8000+CC R=166m 23: 219RMM09540QMB1 C=8000 R=144m 24: 272LBT01613NB5 C=8000 R=150m+ 25: 272LBT01602NB5 C=8000 R=128m 26: 272LBT01607NB5 C=8000 R=117m 27: 153Q7P15591KB4 gone 28: 229R1N11669QMB2 C=8000 R=135m 29: 229R1N11670QMB2 C=8000 R=139m 30: 154H2A12265D gone 31: 229R1N11672QMB2 C=2113 D=1332 C=8000 R=118m 32: 229R1N11673QMB2 C=8000 R=135m 33: 229R1N11668QMB2 C=8000 R=144m 34: 229R1N11675QMB2 C=8000 R=154m 35: 229R1N11671QMB2 bad R=135m 36: 229R1N11663QMB2 bad R=120m 37: 229R1N11681QMB2 exploded 1/23/20 38: 229R1N11680QMB2 okay R=138 39: 229R1N11679QMB2 very good R=154m
