2014 Prius Backup Camera not Detected?

    Hi everyone, first time poster here. I recently bought a 2014 Prius in great shape, no history of accidents, with a weird quirk.

    When I shift into reverse, the system begins beeping as it should and I can back up as normal. However, the multimedia screen never changes. No guidance lines, no backup camera, no blackness, nothing. For example, if I’m listening to music and it’s displaying the song info when I shift into reverse, it’ll keep displaying that song info the entire time I’m backing up.

    Has anyone ever encountered this issue? It seems like my backup camera (which is physically mounted on the hatch as it should be) isn’t being detected or used by the system as normal.

    I'm sure the manual for the car is posted here online someone will share a link I don't know what it is I'm certain there are troubleshooting steps that you need to go through to get to the root of the problem Do your backup lights come on when you're in reverse? It seems like the car doesn't know you're in reverse whether that would be something in the shift lever itself under the blue tulip or another sense or somewhere? I'm not sure but it seems like a pretty simple troubleshooting tree would be in order which would be listed under the troubleshooting steps for no backup camera which may be involved with the multi-display in the stereo section.

    Hi Tom, the car does seem to know it’s in reverse. When I shift it into R, it begins with the obnoxious backup beeping and reverses. Maybe somehow the multimedia unit isn’t getting the same reverse signal?

    It sounds like you need to get the 28 or 30 pages in the manual that cover the stereo and the screen and all that and see if there is a section just for this problem I imagine there must be I don't have the copy of the PDF of the manual I'd love to have it I'd love to have real paper I just haven't had time to look.
