I purchased a 2019 Prius a couple months ago and the radio/11" screen has rebooted several times now while driving. How common is this? I found an old thread (2017( where users thought this was related to a USB connection however I am not using my USB port at all. I can't believe if this has been happening since 2017 that they haven't fixed this by now. Appears to be a software problem as it doesn't correlate with going over a bump or anything like that. I can't believe, they can ban album art due to distraction but they can delay fixing bugs for two years that cause the display to restart while driving down the road?
It is under warranty. Take it in for warranty service. IIRC, there have been almost NO reports of that kind of a problem on here. Edit: Well it seems that statement is wrong. Look here: Bluetooth connection drops and reboots infotainment system | PriusChat You should be prepared to provide some details of what happens......like what screen was displayed at the time, that is what was actually running. And if all the functions reset or just one. This might take several visits to resolve.......since their first reaction probably will be "If we don't see it fail, there is nothing we can do." That is a lie anyway. There are significant things that they can and should do.......including contacting people at Toyota that you have no access to.
Thanks Sam, but what do you mean, there is a full thread on the issue on this forum. https://priuschat.com/threads/11-inch-screen-in-advanced-is-rebooting-at-an-alarming-rate.176250
I'm not sure what country you're in. In 3 3/4 years of reading every post on the Gen 4 PRIUS PriusChat posts, I've only read of a handful of problems with it. So it doesn't appear to be a common problem at all, considering the number of members and the number of posts. From memory, the solution mentioned was to reset/re-boot the radio - I think you hold the <POWER> button down for ?10? seconds. Software gadgets will occasionally need this - I've got 3 MP3 players - and between them I have to reboot one at least monthly, my SAMSUNG Smartphone at least weekly and my laptop about once a week after it slows down. I'm interested - don't the new models show Album Art? Not that it meant anything that I could see - a Beethoven Symphony showed the same - a B&W outline of a CD for all 3 movements. Same with USBs - shows an outline of a USB symbol. I've had a couple of PODCASTS which brought up Album Art which mostly told me nothing more than the name of the PODCAST provider.
Thanks, that's encouraging at least, hopefully they can resolve it under warranty. Unfortunately (I'm in the US) Toyota no longer allows album art to be displayed unless the emergency break is engaged and car is stopped. Yes, astoundingly absurd!
It's probably the same display as in the Prime, but may have some minor programming differences. I think mine has only ever rebooted by itself once or twice. There have been times where I've accidentally initiated a reboot by letting my finger linger a little too long on the audio on/off "button" that has no tactile feedback. If it's just rebooting out of the blue, then I'd go see the dealer.
