I have a 2021 Prius Prime with 68k miles purchased new June 2021. On 5/3/2024 after plugging in to charge, I checked to verify the start time and noticed that the charging time had changed from 5hr 30 min to 11 hours 30 min. I tried to get information from the Dealer regarding whether there had been an automatic update or if this was a known or new problem - crickets. Any ideas out there? Thanks in advance
Hello, There were no changes to equipment or settings. The charging time just changed. I plan to try charging today with a commercial 240V charging station to see if that time shifts to 4 hrs from 2 hrs Thanks
Hi all, my Prius Prime charged successfully on L2 charger for full battery in just under 2 hrs. This leads me to believe that the EVSE brick is at fault.
Hello, if interested, attached is a pdf summary of my driving data through 5/8/2024. Data are starting from day of delivery June 2021.
Hello, There was an oil change on 2/8/2024 at 61944 miles that I neglected to include in the attached.
Yep, check your systems settings. Previous owner must've backed it down to 8A max charging rate. I'm usually at less than 1% when I get home, and it gets a full charge in less than 4.25 hours on the factory 110VAC charging cable. Also make sure the time & DATE is set correctly on your car. The dealership inputted the wrong date into my car; so my charging schedule was off a few days every week. I'm setup on a scheduled timed charge to take advantage of my utility's discounted power usage. This also prevents me from popping circuit breakers, since all my appliances are usually off during those times. Now if your talking about the estimated charge time to full; that'll vary wildly. It's dependent on battery temperature and weather you answered yes or no to using the AC unit to cool down the battery during charging. The system is programmed to protect the traction battery pack, so it's not going to pump 12A into the pack if it's too hot and will step down the charging amperage to keep from destroying the pack. That's why your seeing the wild charging times. I've installed window visors on my car and keep the windows down about 1/4 inch. The battery cooling air is removed from the car's passenger compartment - so run your AC if it's too warm. Your traction battery will thank you, with a long life.... Hope this helps.....
Hi all, No faults with the EVSE brick. It turns out that the issue was with the circuit breaker in the garage. I sincerely appreciate all suggestions / guidance.
