    Hey everyone,

I’m hoping to get some insight from fellow Prius owners on an issue I’m dealing with on my 2023 Prius LE. I recently pulled DTC P013A (O2 Sensor Slow Response - Rich to Lean, Bank 1 Sensor 2), which I understand is the downstream sensor after the catalytic converter.

    Symptoms & Scan Data:

    • No noticeable driveability issues (yet).

    • Freeze frame data shows Long Term Fuel Trim (LTFT) at 9.4% and Secondary O2 Sensor Trim at -61.7%, which seems odd.

    • Catalyst temperature readings seem normal (~900°F).

    • No exhaust leaks that I can find.

    What I’ve Checked So Far:

    • Sensor wiring & connector – no visible damage or corrosion.

    • No exhaust leaks near the cat.

    • Hybrid battery pack shows 0% remaining life (but that seems unrelated).

I’ve seen mixed opinions on whether this means the sensor is just slow and failing, or if there could be a bigger issue like a lazy catalytic converter. Some sources mention that cleaning an O2 sensor is a waste of time, while others say it’s helped temporarily.

    My Questions for You All:

    1. Has anyone else dealt with this issue on a Gen 5 Prius?

    2. If you replaced the sensor, which part number did you use? I see conflicting info between 89465-0E180 and 89465-0C180 for Bank 1 Sensor 2.

    3. Could this be an early sign of a catalytic converter issue? The sensor seems to be reading a little slower than expected.

    4. Did anyone try cleaning the sensor first, and did it help at all?

Any advice, past experiences, or even wild guesses would be greatly appreciated. I’d love to get ahead of this before it turns into a bigger issue. Thanks in advance for any help!

Um ... take it to the dealer? Why are you even bothering trying to figure it out yourself?

    That's what warranties are for.

This should fall under the 8 year/100k mile one for emission controls.

Agreed with replies above, let Toyota sort it out while under warranty. That's where I'm currently at. I'm now at my 3rd instance of this code, despite Toyota replaced it with a new sensor a couple months ago (allegedly). So I'm also trying to determine if this is indicative of a bigger issue.

    1. Yes, my Prius has had 3 instances of the same code for the same sensor since September 2024.

    2. Don't know, Toyota replaced it and my service report from the last visit is likely in the glove box.

    3. Unsure but that's what I'm considering. There was a separate Prius I was considering before purchasing mine. In the history report there was a service visit to Toyota where they replaced the catalytic converter. I was curious for more details so I called the dealership playing stupid and asked if it was stolen. They reassured me it wasn't stolen and merely defective so it had to be replaced. Maybe it's just a coincidence?

    4. Toyota may have done that initially with mine (1st instance was before I bought it). After the 2nd instance there was a significant drop in fuel mileage so it was clearly running way too rich. I know it is estimated but up until that point and after the replaced sensor it was much more accurate.

I just posted a separate thread for repeat O2 sensor codes and will detail my experience there if you find it useful.
