Ok I've just had two different dealers telling me that I wouldn't be eligible for the $2500 FEDERAL tax credit because Toyota doesn't sell the PIP in Florida.

I was 99% sure that the program was offered by the federal government and that Toyota nor any other car makers has anything to do with it. Can someone assure me that I will still be eligible for the tax credit here?

    Yes.

Do not trust the dealers on anything related to this car, especially in states that don't officially sell it.

Well these dealers were located in MD and CT. One even thought the program had already expired.

Their ignorance on this matter isn't really instilling much confidence in their ability to sell me a car...

See, exactly. They thought it was expired, even though it still has many years on it. Why would you believe them on the territory restriction too?

Like I said, their role in your purchase process should be minimal. They are only there to hand you the keys and sign some paperwork. Do not depend on them for anything else.

You are eligible for Fed credit assuming it is new car you are orig owner, and you have to actually have a tax liability to take the credit. I seem to recall early days some Volt dealers were taking the credit by selling between dealers.

During the big PiP sales last fall, some dealers told out-of-state buyers they could not get the Toyota discounts out-of-state yada yada yada but we had many do it, so they were wrong. You probably need to work with dealers that are experienced with out-of-state buyers.
