spoke to Andrew Grant's (Yellow Cab 15) dispatcher and earlier this evening his mileage was 256,369 Km. Approx 160,200 miles on the car since it was put into service. For those who question the life of a Prius, I don't think it's really a concern for the average user.
a year and a half right? wow. How long do they usually keep the cabs? I mean, can you imagine the mileage on the 97 Century or those Luminas?
hey Frank, did he mention what his average mileage has been so far? i realize his mileage will not be as good as ours, but interested in what he is getting nevertheless
"With the savings on gas, did that car pay for the Hybrid premium YET?" or maybe the WHOLE CAR  Better than that... you probably already know this but just in case, Mr Grant had an '01 that he operated as a taxi for over 330,000 km (205,000 miles). At that time it was the highest mileage Prius in North America so Toyota wanted it back to study it, so they exchanged it for a brand new '03 and covered the cost to make it into a taxi.
I just found this promotional video that Mr. Grant participated in - mpeg version windows media version He mentions that the gas mileage has been 65 to 70 miles/Imperial gallon.
one week of night shift cost about $400 and the Lumina's are costing about $1300-$1500 for the same shift. What Hybrid premium? I guess that explains why your seeing all the Prius taxis here on the coast.
woot! no wonder they're popping up everywhere lol. I noticed that the taxi companies here operate differently. Do the drivers own their own vehicle?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Tideland Prius\";p=\"102590)</div> It's both. There are both owner/operators and driver/employees in the greater Van area.
Yeah, I've had a few friends who have driven cabs and my understanding is that if you are a driver, working for an owner/operator, you are paid a commission based on the meter fares. If you are an owner/operator, you are essentially a small business, and paying the cab company for dispatch/advertising etc. services (plus, possibly paying a relief driver to drive when you aren't). Plus there is a third situation, where a cab company owns the whole fleet and all of the drivers are employees.
