I am new here and appreciate any input from you. I brought my wife's car Prius 2015 in for service. The service adviser in Irvine Toyota quote me $365 after tax for my car which is only have 13,000 miles on it and 2.5 year old for 30,000 miles or 3 year scheduled service . Since I don't want to waste my time to bring in 5~6 month, I went ahead to pay for the service. Now, I feel like I was being robbed after doing some research online. Do you think the timing and the price he charge is reasonable? They did change my brake fluid and synthetic oil and air filter all. I remember the part cost is around 100 and labor cost is around 265.
There’s really not much need to be done at 30k miles. At 30k miles, it’s oil change, engine and cabin air filter replacement. You can also replace the transmission fluid and brake fluid optionally.
welcome! yes, that is a total ripoff. change the oil once a year, rotate the tires every 5,000 miles, and follow the maintenance schedule in your owners manual. there really isn't anything else that needs to be done. these cars are CHEAP to maintain properly. all the best.
Locate this booklet in the set that comes with the car. If you don't have it, create an account on the Toyota Owner's website and obtain the PDF version. This covers all recommended service for your car at 5,000 mile intervals. Arm yourself with this information the next time you take it to the dealer...
And find a different dealer/mechanic! No sense in rewarding that one with any more of your business. $165 would have been robbery, $365 is inexcusable.
