I have front roaring noise that becomes loud above around 50MPH It varries with the angle of turn. Generally, this sounds like a bad bearings problem. But at 45K miles!? I assume as a front wheel drive car, the bearings are covered by the 5yr powertrain warranty. Anyone know if that is correct? this is a 2006 model year prius
Sounds like a half shaft CV joint. It also could be something stuck in the brake caliper area. The CV joint should be under the warranty.
2005 Prius, 68k miles needed new front wheel bearings. $1,200+ to repair. Called locals dealers and no one has had problems with it.
Sounds kinda steep, I think my driver's side (at 94K) was about $450. Then they forgot to put the inside shim and brake pad in. End result, they replaced the rotor, shims and pads both sides and the caliper on the driver's side. Mostly I think it was to make really nice (so I wouldn't blast them far and wide I suspect) since there wasn't even a little evidence of damage on the inside of the rotor. I didn't see the piston. Being normally very light on the brake pedal was beneficial in this case because it made a nasty noise when I did have to come to a complete stop.
