Got 57 K on my 06 Prius and I'm about to start a 7K mile cross-country trip. Should I get the 60K service done before I start (car is working fine), have it done en-route when the service light comes on, or can it reasonably wait until I return at which time the odometer is likely to read 64,000? My inclination is to do the service en-route. Problem here is that I do not know where I will be at 60K and would not be acquainted with the service dealer.
Looking at a map, Virgina Beach to Seattle, to San Diego, to Virgina Beach is 7,000 miles, so you likely will pass a Toyota dealer or two! Should you pass through Mississippi, Kirk Toyota in Grenada has served me well. (Let me know if you are in my neighborhood) The 2006 60,000 mile service seems with in any dealer's skill level: Replace engine oil and oil filter Rotate tires Replace cabin air filter Replace engine air filter Inspect the following: Automatic transmission fluid Ball joints and dust covers Brake lines and hoses Brake linings/drums and brake pads/discs Differential oil Drive belts Drive shaft boots Engine and inverter coolant Engine valve clearance Exhaust pipes and mountings Fuel lines and connections, fuel tank band and fuel tank vapor vent system hoses Fuel tank cap gasket Radiator, condenser and intercooler Steering gear box Steering linkage and boots
