http://tinyurl.com/2dpljar PR == Personal Record, or, if you are a cynic, Public Relations I have 4 kWh with Mottcells and 5 kW converter. On November 1st, I found myself in the position of being able to start at the top side of town, run a bunch of errands around the Plaza, and then finish at our new shop. The net elevation drop was 500'. From there I tried to make it to a restaurant but came up half a block short due to the 100' elevation increase. There were a few power downs/ups, but each time EV mode was initiated before ICE-on. No time was spent stopped with the Enginer kit charging the traction battery other than the usual stop light waits. The link above will take you to the map of the route that we took. Thus, elevation changes play a MAJOR part in how far you can go in EV mode.
I agree. I actually am pretty sure that on flat ground you could probably drive the full 20 miles or more without any stops. However, if you watch my video I took this morning (yes, I know I posted it in another thread already) you can see me taking my daughter to school this morning. I drove on to work, which was about another mile and made it the whole way in EV mode. Its actually only 1.7 miles shown in the video but you can see that I go up several hills and I still have the same state of charge when I arrive at the school.
Haha i definitely see no hills! I'll take a video once my kit is installed and you'll see what a real hill is...!
It is always difficult to judge hills in video because you loose depth perception and your orientation (inner ear). Believe me, if you had been on a bicycle going the same route I showed in the video, your legs would definitely be telling you those are hills!
Ok. Your daughter singing all the way was too cute!! But back to business. How did you manage to avoid the engine warmup. EV mod or is the GenII different from the GenIII?
GenII is different, it allows 35mph EV mode as soon as you turn it on (you have about ten seconds to engage it before the warmup starts, then you're locked out). In the UK GenIII allows 21mph EV mode at turn on, then 31mph after warmup. i wish i had 35mph...
Actually, it is 34 mph. Just enough to actually be useful. Its a pitty I can't do 40 mph or 45 mph, though. That would add a lot of flexibility, but is questionable if the enginer kit could sustain those types of speeds for any distance.
