Best I can tell, the 8-Amp charging option is a global setting, and thus can't be chosen as an attribute of any particular charging session on your charging schedule, right? On the YouTube videos, I don't see such an option, but I do see a "?" icon on the charging-schedule screen, so maybe-perhaps there might be more options under there? While I'm waiting for my P.Prime to arrive, I'm pondering charging and other usage strategies.
Yes, it is. What I'm getting at is that it could be useful to be able to do my overnight charge, when I have plenty of time, 8A, but do all others as quickly as possible. Slower charging rates mean a little less wear on the battery. So, it would be good if I could control that on a charge-event-by-charge-event basis, rather than a global setting.
The 8A setting would be useful if your plug is on the end of a long line, such as thatprimeguy (parks in a lot a good distance from the building). He posted voltage and current measurements and I saw a rather large voltage drop (about 8V as I recall). If you have an outlet close to the breaker panel or sufficiently wired (#10 wires for example) the 12A would be fine. Keep in mind, if the battery heater comes on it will impact how much current can be used to charge the battery. The manual warns of this.
12A is slow LOL. Also useful at opportunity charging from an old/unknown outlet, as a safety measure.
Does 2020 base Prime have "Charge Current" switchable from 12amp to 8amp??? because not seeing on my dash like show on his 2017? I'm on 50ft of 15amp cord and seems to be on about an 8amp schedule (7hrs to full charge 1/3 charged batt). I can't remember if I'd messed with settings months ago (I never Plug In normally). Does a 2020 have fancy computer sensor to see I'm on an extension cord and is drawing less juice?
