Anyone else disgusted by the crass commercialization and (Bush's) political posturing on the 5th anniversary of 9/11?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Bob Allen @ Sep 14 2006, 12:10 PM) </div> So say we all! It was awful. I kept cringing whenever Iraq was mentioned as "part of the war on terror". Fortunately we have the Daily Show as a paliative!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Bob Allen @ Sep 14 2006, 01:10 PM) </div> No! How are we celebrating the anniversary of bj's disbarment? How about the 10 anniversaries of him letting obl get away? Or, the anniversary of him trying to influence ABC's miniseries this past week? Or maybe the anniversary of Sandy Berger destroying documents in the National Archives related to bj's incompetent war of terror - or more approriately stated, his law enforcement actions against terror. I cant go on any longer. Seriously - I thought it was done perfectly - thanks for asking. BTW - did you fly the flag on 9/11? Just curious.
Thank God, I was out of the country! They did have a nice memorial service in the Philippines though.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(tleonhar @ Sep 14 2006, 02:25 PM) </div> Why and what did they do? All I saw here at Ground Zero was a reading of the names, putting flowers in a reflection pool and the President laying a wreath. Saw a few flags too. Bascially a replay of each anniversary since 9/11/01
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Bob Allen @ Sep 14 2006, 12:10 PM) </div> No, but I am constantly disgusted by the Bush bashing.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(dbermanmd @ Sep 14 2006, 01:36 PM) </div> All flags were flown at half mast throughout the country, the police wore arm bands with the US flag just below the RP flag on their uniforms, plus they had a memorial service at a large park in Makti where they read the names of the filipinos killed on 9/11. In addition each of the newspapers ran a remembrance piece on the front page. Then at 8:46PM (local time when the first plane hit in NY), there was a nation-wide moment of silence, followed by an address to the nation by President Arroyo (she delivered it in Tagalog and I didn't get a chance to find an English translation).
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(tleonhar @ Sep 14 2006, 04:08 PM) </div> Very nice! I would be interested in reading what she said.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Steve F @ Sep 14 2006, 02:26 PM) </div> they act as if "nobody" actually voted for Bush don't they? Misery loves comfort... what else can I say?
As far as remembering those that lost their lives that day, I don't think it really mattered to me who was saying what. We had a family friend that was on flt 93, she, as well as all the other inocent people, didn't deserve to die that day. I reflect on 9/11 every time another year comes and goes. I don't really listen to the speaches and such, but I do think that we as Americans need to remember what happened that day. No matter what political preference you have, we owe it to those that died to remember. Sorry about the rant, not someting I normally do.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(tazman @ Sep 17 2006, 08:51 PM) </div> Tazman, I'm truly sorry for your loss. What you said is true. Who said what and why they were saying it doesn't make a whit of difference. My wife & I lit a candle and said prayers for all who lost someone that day.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Proco @ Sep 17 2006, 08:09 PM) </div> Me too.. I'm sorry for your lost.. It stinks to really lose someone to something so stupid. The whole 9-11 thing seems to just be a political toy until it hits home.
