I've figured that my ABS actuator has bit the dust and now in the process of deciding to purchase a replacement actuator. Looked on Ebay, their prices range around the $400-$500 range. That got me thinking about going to a Pick-N-Pull and getting one for around $200. That sure beats the heck out of the dealership price for part and labor. My question is .......Do you think the Ebay actuators are any better/more reliable than the PNP parts? Seems to me that getting a dud at either place is a possibility so why not go for the less expensive option? Heck, the sellers on Ebay probably went to a PNP and got their actuator, doubled the cost and then put it up on Ebay. Is my thinking in the realm of possibility? Doing any replacement with a used actuator is sketchy because you do not know the actual mileage of the PNP car, thus you might be pulling a acutator out of a Prius that has 250K miles on it and the actuator might have only 10K miles of life left in it. Do acutators have a life expectancy?
These parts will need replacement as they age, they all fail eventually. Depending on the condition of your car, you may want to get a new part from Toyota. That will at least last another 10 years. This is quite an extensive time consuming repair, you probably don't want to find out after 5 hours of hard labor that the part is no good.
