Hi Guys new here. My 2007 with 170,00 mile ABS brake lights came on car was diagnose and got the code C1256 and C1391. Can I just remove abs fused and just drive. All my 70's cars had no ABS on them. Yes i know how to drive with no ABS. Will this cause a problem on the Prius. Getting one on Ebay is a hit or miss or do any of you guys know a safe place Ebay to get one.
There is no safe used option You need to buy off of a car that somebody who was using or owned the car knows that the engine blew up and there were no brake codes and everything was working fine until the engine blew up the inverter blew up the drive axles fell out the back end of the car fell off It got hit in the side broadsided or what have you other than that you've got nothing junk yards will big ones can give you a warranty but then you're changing out this part once twice thrice whatever that could be costly unless you're doing it yourself doing this once or twice you can do it in an hour maybe a tad longer but it's no fun. A friend of mine just bought the new part from the dealer I don't know about 4 weeks ago and even an online purchase was $1,280 had he walked in and bought it It would have been 1700 which really sucks.
No, you can't really drive a Prius "without the ABS". Some car designs have "non-integral" ABS. This is where there is a normal braking system (master cylinder, brake booster, calipers etc). The ABS system is plumbed between the M/C and the wheels, and under most use it doesn't do anything until needed. Electrically disabling this type of ABS doesn't affect the base braking system. A Prius has an "integral" ABS system. All the high tech gadgetry is required for safe braking under normal use (let alone during an ABS event). The high pressure pump, accumulator, and ecu controlled valves supply pressure to operate the calipers and drum wheel cylinders everytime you step on the brake pedal (AND the ecu decides to use the "friction brakes"). You can't separate the high tech ABS stuff from anything. When (not if) your actuator - pump assembly fails completely, you will be left with the master cylinder directly connected to the front brakes. No brake boost, no rear brakes, no regenerative braking (which is tough on the HV battery) - this is the "get the car stopped on the side of the road and call a tow truck" mode. That assumes that there's no hidden air in the braking hydraulic system. As far as ebay, well you already HAVE a used part that's bad. I have read about some people who put a used actuator in and had no trouble. I have also read about others getting multiple parts and not getting any to work at all.
