What actually needs to be done to properly maintain a Prius? I get my oil changed and tires rotated every 5,000 miles. Do I really need a 5,000 mile inspection....and a 7,500 mile inspection...and a 10,000 mile inspection? At what point should I get everything checked out?

You should check the maintenance book that come with the car. Oil and filter change every 5k miles, some visual inspection, tire rotation. That's about it. Major service interval is another story.

it's good to keep an eye on things like CV boots- worn boots can cause major expenses later on. just know what to keep an eye on yourself and you're ok. :)
