When I open the hatch on my new Gen4 Prius, the hatch door goes so high that when the garage door is open (i.e., rolled up overhead rather than behind the car), the hatch door hits the garage door. I'm worried that this will both damage the Prius's paint job and make a mark on the door. Is there a way to adjust how high the hatch door goes when it opens? The only alternative I can think of is to put some padding the garage door and/or the edge of the hatch door -- which doesn't seem like a satisfactory solution. Thanks for any help you can provide.
This is for gen 3, but the solution is the same, install shorter struts: Hatchback hitting garage door solution! | PriusChat
Here's my experience with installing shorter struts on our 2011 when one strut gave out: Hatchback hitting garage door solution! | Page 3 | PriusChat
I ended up doing something similar: today I taped about 5 layers of carpet padding to that part of my garage door.
I back into the garage . There's no door and I drive forward (rather than reverse into) the alley. Granted, it makes no difference if you have a driveway.
