been lurking for a while and this is my first post. 1) I want a car for mostly highway driving. I’m a soccer mom about maintenance (I don’t like), but I like how Prius has a large knowledge base for repairs and problems. Otherwise, my needs are basic as it gets. Here’s the listing for what I’m looking at: 2004 Toyota Prius Hybrid NEWER HYBRID BATTERY 165k Miles - $3,995 Features: Make: Toyota Model: Prius Hybrid Year: 2004 Mileage: 165809 VIN #: JTDKB22U840008531 Condition: used Exterior Color: Seaside Blue Pearl Interior Color: Beige Body Style: Hatchback Drive Type: Automatic Horsepower: Hybrid Pricing: $3,995 I’m willing to pay so much for a 15 yo car bc Tampa Hybrids has an impeccable reputation around here and does a lot of service. The owner told me his rate for battery replacement is $2400 or $1800 for his rebuilt batteries. Also $2k for ABS actuator. So humor me and assume the dealer is legit (I’ve talked to a couple ppl in person who recommended and his reviews online are impeccable): What should I ask/look for when I go look at it? My budget is about 6k (I like to pay cash), and I figure this would allow me 2k for surprises/repairs. My main concern is that there’s nothing about the service history. I will ask but wanted to ask here first...
You can enter the Vin number at Welcome to Toyota Owners to ensure it's had regular servicing if previous owner used a dealer. Also here's a thread I started a year after I bought a used Prius wit 102K miles... Lots of great stories to make you feel confident in choosing a Gen2 Prius: Did you buy a Prius with 100K+ miles?
