So the 2006 I gave my grand son sat for 8 months. Rarely ran. Now after finding the 12V dead and replaced that. Now the red triangle, brake, and check engine lights are on. So Toyota says the HV battery. So we ripped it apart. Will have the battery box out tomorrow. Have a few questions and what ever tips you may have. Where did you get the replacement cell? Was it new? Did you discharge and charge each cell? After getting it back in the car did all the warning lights reset themselves. Thanks for any help Tom
Your in the wrong forum. Post in Troubleshooting and maintenance you get alot more eyes on your thread. This is a technological discussion forum.
Update, we found one low cell. So it looks like you can't buy a new one. If so that's a Toyota scam!!!
You can't buy a cell from Toyota. But it's not a scam. It's just that replacing one cell isn't a very good or very long lasting fix. The problem will resurface soon. I suppose they don't want angry customers coming in and claiming they got sold a junk cell or Toyota is in some way responsible for the results of the customer's situation. BUT there are places where you can get cells and discussions about how to replace and balance them. You cans spend several weeks just reading them all here on Prius Chat alone. So I won't restate them.
Here's one thread: single cell replacement in HV battery | PriusChat Here are a few more: https://priuschat.com/search/31816474/?q=replace+cell&o=relevance&c[node]=12
Thanks guys, you maybe right, but hope not. It's my grandsons first car. We had a good time ripping it apart and finding the bad cell. We just ordered the one on Ebay.
+1! Here's the link to the one I use on my wife's '07 and used to use on both '05s. Lots of good info there and lots of helpful threads here. Online Store – Hybrid Automotive
Update. Prior to pulling the battery we ran the car and got all the good cells up to 8.10. All cells were very consistent. Except the bad one. We didn't disconnect any of the series connections. Just measured each cell. So we ordered a cell. About a week later the cell arrived. I had planed on charging it to the same voltage of all the other cells. The new cell was at 7.91 and the other cells were at 7.87. We decided all we need to do was put it in. We installed the cell and connected the box. Started the car, and the two yellow light lights that were on are now out. But the red triangle was still on. Battery charging looked normal. I shut the car down and restarted and the red triangle was off! A 20 mile test ride and the car ran perfectly. Battery power was as good as It has ever been. This was the first cell failure in 200 K.
